Free Gift — Calculate purchase amount after product discount
Overview
When using Purchase amount as the measurement for a Gift with product offer, you can now choose whether the qualifying amount is calculated based on the price before or after product discounts are applied.
This matters when a customer adds a discount code or a product with an automatic discount — the app will recalculate the cart total and remove the free gift if the customer no longer meets the minimum spend requirement.
The two options explained
Price before product discounts | Price after product discount |
|---|---|
The qualifying amount is based on the original price of products in the cart, ignoring any discounts. Customers keep the free gift even if a discount code reduces the final total. | The qualifying amount is recalculated after discounts are applied. If a discount brings the total below the minimum, the free gift is automatically removed from the cart. |
What happens when the gift is removed
When the customer's cart total falls below the minimum spend after a discount is applied, the app automatically removes the free gift and displays an error message in the cart to inform the customer.

How to configure
- Go to Qikify Upsell → Manage offers and open your Gift with product offer.
- Under Measurement, select Purchase amount.
- A new setting will appear: Calculate purchase amount based on.
- Choose either Price before product discounts or Price after product discounts depending on your preference.
- Save your offer.

Why does the progress bar show the goal as reached even when there will be an automatic discount applied to the product and bring the total down?
You may notice that the progress bar shows goal reached on the product page — but after adding to cart, the free gift gets removed. This is expected behavior and not a bug.
The reason is that the app can only detect whether a discount has been applied to a product after it is added to the cart. Before the product is added, the app has no way of knowing what discounts — automatic or code-based — will be applied to it.
So the progress bar always calculates based on the original price. Once the product is added and the discount kicks in, the app re-evaluates the cart total and removes the gift if the customer no longer qualifies.

Progress bar visual update
The progress bar has been updated with a two-tone design to give customers a clearer picture of where they stand — both for their current cart and for the product they're about to add.

This helps customers understand at a glance:
- How much their current cart already counts toward the goal
- How much the product they're viewing will contribute if added
- How much more they need to spend to unlock the free gift.
